CHP Party Spokesperson Deniz Yücel: Put an end to the violence on the streets of İzmir
Protests that began following the detention of Ekrem İmamoğlu spread across Turkey in a short time. The crowds grew exponentially, especially as university students joined the protests. Students, who occasionally faced off with the police, were met with water cannon (TOMA) interventions, particularly in İzmir. CHP Party Spokesperson Deniz Yücel criticized these scenes.

In his statement, Yücel used the following expressions:
The common-sense, patriotic, and democratic people of this country are taking to the streets to express their reaction against injustice and lawlessness.
In İzmir, too, hundreds of our citizens, primarily university students, are on the streets to exercise their democratic rights...
Our people want freedom of expression in Turkey, demand an end to the pressures on fundamental rights, and call for democracy.
They are opposing the judicial terror and injustices applied to Mr. İmamoğlu.
However, whenever those patriotic people call for law and justice, they are met with tear gas, pressurized water, and disproportionate force.
İzmir Governor Süleyman Elban and İzmir Police Chief Celal Sel! I am warning you... You are responsible for these scenes of violence on the streets of İzmir.
Put an immediate end to this violence...
