CHP reaction to the Stray Animals Law: No CHP municipality will accept euthanasia

Making a statement regarding his party's Central Executive Board (MYK) meeting, Yücel announced an important decision they have taken.

'THE WAY HAS BEEN OPENED FOR THE EUTHANASIA OF HEALTHY ANIMALS'

Noting that the legislative proposal regarding stray animals grants municipalities the authority to perform euthanasia—that is, to kill—animals that have rabies, contagious diseases, untreatable illnesses, or are prohibited from being owned, Yücel stated that the way has also been opened for the euthanasia of healthy animals if the stray animal population is deemed to pose a threat to public safety.

'NO CHP MUNICIPALITY WILL ACCEPT IT'

Stating that the right to life of stray animals is as sacred and inviolable as our own, Yücel said the following:

"No CHP municipality will accept or implement the 'euthanasia' practice for stray animals. We will continue to defend the right to life of stray animals to the end. On the other hand, we understand from the efforts to dump the 'euthanasia' practice onto local governments that they are planning to turn the high number of CHP municipalities into an opportunity. They think they can get our hands dirty with blood. They are dreaming; they should not confuse us with themselves.

As the CHP, as our Chairman Mr. Özgür Özel has also stated, we are on 'Red alert' regarding this law. We support all steps to be taken regarding spaying, vaccinating, and keeping them in their habitats. We say 'Spay, vaccinate, keep in habitat,' and we share with the entire public that our vote will be 'No' against the legislative proposal prepared to condemn animals living on the streets to captivity and death."
