CHP reacts to Ministry of National Education's decision to appoint 20,000 teachers: 'It doesn't even replace those who retired'

CHP Deputy Chairman Suat Özçağdaş issued a written statement regarding the Ministry of National Education's decision to appoint 20,000 teachers. Özçağdaş stated that the hopes of hundreds of thousands of teachers, who have been waiting for months to be appointed, have been dashed, and that the appointment of 20,000 is unacceptable.

"THE APPOINTMENT FIGURE DOES NOT REPLACE RETIRED TEACHERS"

Emphasizing that teacher appointments concern not only teachers but everyone, primarily children and their parents, Özçağdaş remarked, "Last year alone, 23,670 teachers retired; this appointment figure does not even replace the teachers who have retired. The government's ignoring of these problems while teachers are struggling with so many issues has now exceeded the limit of tolerance."

"RESIGNATION IS A NECESSITY"

Stating that they stand with the teachers, Özçağdaş noted the following:

"We will continue to fight until no school is left without a teacher, until the exploitation of paid and contract teaching ends, until appointments are made without interviews, and until teachers work for the wages they deserve. It has now become a necessity for all relevant staff, starting with Mr. Yusuf Tekin, to resign. We will continue to be here to lead teachers and education out of this impasse you have created."
