Republican People's Party (CHP) Group Deputy Chairman Gökhan Günaydın reacted to the launch of a new investigation against Ekrem İmamoğlu, asking, "What happened to the immunity of the defense? What happened to Article 128 of the Turkish Penal Code (TCK), and the relevant rulings of the Court of Cassation, the Constitutional Court, and the ECHR?"
Reacting sharply to the new investigation against İmamoğlu, Günaydın shared the following on his social media account:
"A new investigation has been launched against Ekrem İmamoğlu, and he has been summoned to testify tomorrow via the SEGBIS room at the prison.
So, what is the reason? He is being summoned to testify as part of an investigation launched on the charge of 'insulting a public official due to their duty' regarding his words directed at two prosecutors while he was being arrested on the morning of March 23, 2025, which was his 4th day in custody, having received 15.5 million votes and being the CHP's presidential candidate.
Let us ask, what happened to the immunity of the defense? What happened to Article 128 of the TCK, and the relevant rulings of the Court of Cassation, the Constitutional Court, and the ECHR? I am calling out to those lost in the spiral of investigation-testimony-prosecution-punishment: The scale whose balance you have broken will one day weigh you too..."
