CHP's Tugay issues statement on the Vocational Factory title deed: 'Even if I cannot fathom this audacity...'

İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Cemil Tugay continues his protest regarding the transfer of the Vocational Factory's ownership to the General Directorate of Foundations. Tugay is also continuing to react to the situation through his social media posts.

In his latest post, Cemil Tugay responded to deputies who claimed that the title deed of the Vocational Factory belongs to the foundations, providing documents to support his rebuttal.

AKP İzmir Deputy Mahmut Atilla Kaya had made the following statement regarding the claim that the Vocational Factory's title deed belongs to the foundations: "The Mayor of İzmir Metropolitan Municipality, whose every statement is tainted by lies, continues to shift into higher gear in lying. İzmir does not believe Cemil Tugay." 

Kaya stated that they would bring to life a project on the land, whose title deed belongs to the General Directorate of Foundations, that will create space for the dreams of young people and add value to İzmir.

TUGAY'S STATEMENT ON TITLE DEED AND FOUNDATION CLAIMS

İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Tugay published a reaction message via social media without naming AKP İzmir Deputy Kaya, using the following expressions:

"A so-called İzmir deputy (who I believe is in the service of the foundations) has made another social media post and said; 'The title deed of the Vocational Factory building belongs to the foundations.' 

  Even if I cannot fathom this audacity, I have to make a statement because I do not want them to mislead or deceive our people. 

Dear deputy of the foundations, this building has been the property of the İzmir Municipality and the people of İzmir since 1926. Until it was transferred to the foundations at the land registry office on October 8, 2025, without any of us knowing, it said İzmir Metropolitan Municipality on that title deed. Do not tell people it has always belonged to a foundation (a fictional foundation called the Bayezid Baba Foundation) with your cunning and cleverness; it is shameful. 

  Shall we look together at the law you cite as justification for your attempt to seize İzmir's property?   

   "Article 30 of the Foundations Law No. 5737 stipulates that cultural assets (historical buildings, mosques, etc.) established through foundations and which have passed over time to the Treasury, municipalities, special administrations, or village legal entities shall be returned to their original foundation. This article grants the General Directorate broad powers for the protection of foundation assets and their use in accordance with the foundation's purpose."

  I am asking clearly; did you read the article of the law thoroughly? It says 'established through a foundation.' Answer me; which foundation established the Vocational Factory? Was this place not established by 2 entrepreneurial citizens  as a 'FLOUR FACTORY'? What foundation!? Then how can you take the property from the municipality based on this article of the law? 

    While transferring the title deed to the foundations, you seized the deed in the name of a fictional foundation called the Bayezid Baba Foundation, which was closed back in the time of Abdülhamid and did not exist when this flour factory was built in 1908. How can you still shamelessly say that the title deed of this building belongs to the foundations?"
