CHP's Umut Akdoğan: I informed our Chairman that I do not wish to take a role in the new formation

Following claims that CHP's elected Chairman Özgür Özel will establish a new political formation under the name "New Party" and that the founding petition will be submitted next week, a notable statement has come from CHP Ankara Deputy Umut Akdoğan, who was suggested to be staying out of the new structure.

Making a post that confirms the behind-the-scenes claims, Akdoğan stated that he had informed Chairman Özel that he did not wish to take on any executive role in the party to be established.

Journalist İsmail Saymaz's claim that CHP Chairman Özel is preparing to establish a new party and that the founding petition will be submitted to the Ministry of Interior next week has stirred political circles. According to Saymaz's claim, prominent party figures such as Veli Ağbaba, Ali Mahir Başarır, Umut Akdoğan, Burhanettin Bulut, and Turan Taşkın Özer will not take part in the management staff of this new structure.

Following the widespread public reaction to these claims, CHP Ankara Deputy Akdoğan, one of the names mentioned, made a written statement via his social media account. Reminding that he had not taken on an active role by his own choice in the period following the "change congress," Akdoğan included the following statements in his post:

"After the change congress in the Republican People's Party, I did not take a role in any board or in the TBMM by my own choice. I had expressed on an occasion to our Chairman that I did not wish to take on any executive role in the party to be established. The interest and love shown to us on the street is enough for us."
