CHP Spokesperson Yücel: The AKP's rote narrative was broken on Saturday

CHP Deputy Chairman and Party Spokesperson Deniz Yücel stated, "The CHP is engaged in a series of actions against the lawlessness and judicial coup directed at Mr. Ekrem İmamoğlu, his colleagues, and our mayors. This will continue until we get our Mayor Ekrem and his companions out."

The CHP Central Executive Board (MYK) met under the chairmanship of Chairman Özgür Özel. The meeting at the party headquarters lasted 4 hours.

Following the meeting, Yücel held a press conference on the MYK agenda, criticizing the removal of Ekrem İmamoğlu from his post as Mayor of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) following a "corruption" investigation, as well as the investigations launched against other mayors.

Recalling the rally his party held in Yozgat over the weekend, Yücel said, "A farmer from Yozgat stood up and said, 'A state cannot be governed with radishes and turnips; it is governed with law and justice.' This single sentence by Abdullah Ceylan summarized the sorry state of Turkey for all of us. The AKP's rote narrative that 'Yozgat is ours' was broken on Saturday."

Reminding that 15.5 million signatures were collected in the organization-supervised primary held on March 23 to determine the CHP's presidential candidate, Yücel stated, "As you all know, we have a new signature campaign against this mentality that keeps our candidate imprisoned, keeps the ballot box away from the nation, and challenges and ignores the national will. Our goal is 28 million signatures."

Responding to criticisms regarding Deputy Speaker of Parliament Gülizar Biçer Karaca having the Constitutional Court (AYM) ruling read in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) concerning Can Atalay, who was a convict in the Gezi Park case and whose parliamentary seat was revoked, Yücel said, "Ms. Karaca is a deputy from Denizli, a person elected to the position of Deputy Speaker of Parliament, and a legal expert. Here, Karaca has done what Mr. Kurtulmuş, who is also a legal expert, should have done but failed to do for 1.5 years; she has fulfilled the requirement of the constitutional provision. Having the Constitutional Court ruling read in the TBMM is the fulfillment of a procedure."

"DEMANDING FREEDOM FOR PALESTINE IS NOT THE MONOPOLY OF ANY PARTY"

Recalling the demonstration that the CHP İstanbul Provincial Organization wanted to hold in Beyoğlu, Yücel assessed, "When we chant 'Free Palestine' it is illegal, but when you do it, it is legal, is that it? What is illegal about saying 'Freedom for Palestine'? Demanding freedom for Palestine and saying no to genocide is not the monopoly of any party, and it cannot be. The discrimination being practiced is also a constitutional crime."

Upon a journalist's question, Yücel stated that they would hold rallies in Ankara on April 23 and in Mersin on April 26, and added:

"We plan to hold a rally every weekend in the following weeks as well. We are currently working on the provinces. I can state that we are planning to hold a rally in İzmir on May 19. The CHP is engaged in a series of actions against the lawlessness and judicial coup directed at Mr. Ekrem İmamoğlu, his colleagues, and our mayors. This will continue until we get our Mayor Ekrem and his companions out."
