CHP Party Spokesperson Yücel stated the following in his announcement:
“We are facing a democratic coup, a civil coup. A coup is not only carried out with tanks and rifles. It is also carried out by suspending the law, by usurping the national will, and by paralyzing democracy… We are facing judicial terror. Yes, this is called judicial terror. Our Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, who defeated Tayyip Erdoğan and the AKP 4 times, is being attempted to be eliminated through judicial terror. A coup is being staged against the next President. Look; in democratic countries, dawn raids are not conducted against elected officials. In democratic countries, opening a nursery or a city restaurant is not a crime. In democratic countries, there is the rule of law, not the rule of the powerful. The judiciary is not a toy in the hands of the executive. In democratic countries, crimes are not invented to eliminate a rival. One does not call their rival a leader of a criminal organization. They are inflicting this evil upon our nation and our beautiful country just so one person does not lose their seat. Let no one forget this. Those who inflict this tyranny and this judicial terror upon our nation are not greater than the tens of millions of children of this nation who believe in democracy and the rule of law. That is why we will all be at the solidarity ballot boxes together on Sunday, March 23. We are setting up 5,600 ballot boxes in 81 provinces and 973 districts. One ballot box is the primary election box for our Republican People's Party members, and the other is the solidarity box for our citizens who want to support Ekrem İmamoğlu… To have a say in the future of this country and to stand in solidarity against this broken, lawless order, we expect our people at the ballot boxes tomorrow morning between 08:00 and 17:00. Come to the solidarity ballot box; stand up for democracy, your rights, and your hope!”
