CHP's Yavuzyılmaz calculates highway toll after privatization: It could rise to 365 TL

CHP Deputy Chairman Deniz Yavuzyılmaz has reacted to the plan to privatize the Izmir-Aydın Highway, currently operated by the General Directorate of Highways, for 25 years, claiming that the toll could increase from 73 TL to 365 TL.

CHP Deputy Chairman Deniz Yavuzyılmaz continues to make striking claims regarding highways.

The CHP official made a statement on his social media account regarding allegations about the privatization of the Izmir-Aydın Highway.

'A 400% HIKE IS EXPECTED'

Yavuzyılmaz stated the following:

Attention to all our citizens! Especially those living in or traveling through Izmir and Aydın! One of the public-operated highways that the AKP plans to privatize for 25 years is the KGM Izmir-Aydın Highway! Route: Izmir-Aydın. Length: 99 km. Toll: 73 TL. If this privatization plan goes through, the vehicle toll is expected to rise to 365 TL, which means a 400% hike.

So how? As of 2026, the vehicle toll on the public-operated KGM Izmir-Aydın Highway in the 2nd Regional Directorate of Highways is 0.74 TL per kilometer. The vehicle toll for the Aydın-Denizli Highway, located in the same highway region and operated by crony companies under the Build-Operate-Transfer model, is 3.57 TL per kilometer. The difference is 5-fold.

This means that if the KGM Izmir-Aydın Highway is privatized, the current 73 TL vehicle toll will be indexed to the toll of the highway operated under the build-operate-transfer model and will rise to 365 TL. This is called robbing the citizens under the guise of privatization.
