CHP's Yavuzyılmaz warns: 'AKP is setting a new trap for citizens': 2.5 months left

CHP Deputy Chairman and Zonguldak MP Deniz Yavuzyılmaz stated regarding the upcoming electricity price hikes, "The AKP is setting a new trap for citizens in electricity bills! There are 2.5 months left to take precautions!" Yavuzyılmaz stated that residential subscribers whose total annual electricity bill exceeds 8,000 TL will have their monthly tariff changed.

CHP's Yavuzyılmaz continues to make striking statements on his social media account. Yavuzyılmaz said, "The AKP is changing the monthly tariff for residential subscribers whose total electricity consumption in 2025 exceeds 3,000 kilowatt-hours, meaning their total annual electricity bill exceeds 8,000 TL. A residential subscriber who currently has a monthly electricity consumption of 250 kilowatt-hours and pays a monthly bill of 662 TL will see that bill rise to 1,483 TL in 2026!"

So, what kind of trap is it?

With the decision that the EMRA is about to make in a few months, effective from 2026;

The AKP is changing the monthly tariff for residential subscribers whose total electricity consumption in 2025 exceeds 3,000 kilowatt-hours, meaning their total annual electricity bill exceeds 8,000 TL.

It is removing these subscribers from the fixed-price tariff and placing them into a variable-price tariff where the market clearing price applies.

A residential subscriber who currently has a monthly electricity consumption of 250 kilowatt-hours and pays a monthly bill of 662 TL will see that bill rise to 1,483 TL in 2026!

Rate of the planned hike: 124%

A 973 TL bill will rise to 2,137 TL!

Rate of the planned hike: 120%

A 1,128 TL bill will rise to 2,462 TL!

Rate of the planned hike: 118%

To keep your total 2025 electricity bill below 8,000 TL (meaning keeping electricity consumption below 3,000 kilowatt-hours), make sure to reduce your consumption in October, November, and December!
