CHP's Yavuzyılmaz warns of massive price hikes following privatization: Explains with data

CHP Deputy Chairman Deniz Yavuzyılmaz has published the 3rd installment of his statements titled "Publicly-owned highways that the AKP plans to privatize for 25 years."

Yavuzyılmaz stated that the AKP plans to privatize the KGM İzmir-Çeşme Highway and that if this privatization takes place, the expected price hike for vehicle tolls is 300 percent.

In his documented posts, Deniz Yavuzyılmaz this time focused on the KGM İzmir-Çeşme Highway. Stating that the highway is 56 km long and the toll is 53 TL, Yavuzyılmaz said, "If this privatization takes place, the expected price hike for vehicle tolls is 300 percent."

Yavuzyılmaz's post from his X account is as follows:

"KGM İzmir-Çeşme Highway

Route: İzmir-Çeşme

Length: 56 km. 

Toll: 53 TL

If this privatization takes place, the expected price hike for vehicle tolls is 300 percent!  So how?

As of 2026; in the Highways 2nd Region, the vehicle toll on the KGM İzmir-Çeşme Highway, which is operated by the public, is 0.95 TL per kilometer. The vehicle toll on the Menemen-Çandarlı-Aliağa Highway, which is in the same highway region, has the same length, and is operated by crony companies under the Build-Operate-Transfer model, is 3.66 TL per kilometer. The difference is 4 times!

The result is that if the KGM İzmir-Çeşme Highway is privatized; the vehicle toll, which is currently 53 TL, is expected to rise to 205 TL. This means a hike of up to 300 percent on vehicle tolls! This is what it means for citizens to be repeatedly fleeced by crony companies on roads for which they have already paid the cost many times over with their taxes!"
