In the case filed against Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu for allegedly calling YSK members 'fools,' the Istanbul Anadolu 7th Criminal Court of First Instance sentenced İmamoğlu to 2 years, 7 months, and 15 days in prison, along with a 4-year political ban.

All eyes are now on the Court of Appeals regarding the case against İmamoğlu.

İMAMOĞLU HAD ISSUED A CHALLENGE: "THE NATION WILL RISE UP"

Stating that the verdict should be reached as soon as possible, İmamoğlu also said that the case damages democracy and the Republic. Expressing that he trusts in justice despite everything, İmamoğlu had said, "I am stating my claim clearly; if the Court of Appeals upholds my sentence, this government will not live to see the day of the Supreme Court's decision. This nation will rise up. The mind that attempts to intervene in the will of this nation through the judiciary will be gone before it can see the result of the decision at the Supreme Court."

CHP Chairman Özgür Özel had also supported İmamoğlu's words.

A HIGHLY DISCUSSED CLAIM ON LIVE BROADCAST

Journalist Altan Sancar explained what roadmap the CHP would follow if a ban is imposed.

Sancar claimed that after a 'political ban' decision from the Court of Appeals, the CHP would announce Ekrem İmamoğlu as its presidential candidate.

"IF A BAN COMES, IMAMOGLU IS THE PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE"

Sancar used the following expressions during the live broadcast on Sözcü TV:

"Let me give you a very bold piece of information. It is information that I have discussed and confirmed during the break. The CHP leadership is very close to announcing İmamoğlu's candidacy if a decision comes out of the Court of Appeals that upholds the sentence of İBB Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu.

This is a very clear stance. If such a decision comes out of the Court of Appeals, İmamoğlu's presidential candidacy will be announced to the public from that day forward.

This view has currently become a serious position within the party."
