CHP's Gökan Zeybek reacts to 'seizure' move: The issue is not collecting debts

CHP Deputy Chairman Gökan Zeybek has reacted to the Ministry of Labor and Social Security's decision to place liens on 6 CHP-run municipalities. Speaking to the ANKA News Agency, Zeybek stated, "Those who manage the country's economy should first bring this inflation down to single digits and bring monthly inflation figures to the 1 percent level so that debts can be managed and serviced. The issue is not generating revenue, the issue is not collecting overdue debts. The issue is, 'How can we lower the high public approval of CHP municipalities through perception management?' It is not possible for them to succeed in this. If an election were held today, we are strong enough to add another 400 municipalities on top of our 412." 

Zeybek said the following: 

"Today's high inflation and the very high interest rates on public debt constitute one of the biggest negatives regarding the servicing of this debt. The budget will have passed through Parliament by this weekend. Those who prepared this budget, those who manage this country's economy, should first bring this inflation down to single digits and bring monthly inflation figures to the 1 percent level so that debts can be managed and serviced. In other words, in a period where the country's economy is managed this poorly, it must be said that municipalities, their subsidiaries, and other public institutions are all in a serious debt spiral, just like all other institutions. It is not just municipalities that are in debt. The issue is not generating revenue, the issue is not collecting overdue debts. The issue is, 'How can we lower the high public approval of CHP municipalities through perception management?' It is not possible for them to succeed in this. Because we have measured the first nine months, and I would like to say that if an election were held today, we are strong enough to add another 400 municipalities on top of our 412."
