Circular issued by Minister Kurum: Land to be identified for social housing

A circular signed by Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Murat Kurum has been sent to the governorships of 81 provinces to identify land to be used for the construction of social housing.

According to the statement made by the Ministry, the "Circular on Social Housing Projects to be Implemented Nationwide", prepared by the Housing Development Administration (TOKİ) and signed by Minister Kurum, has been sent to the governorships of 81 provinces.

In the circular, governors were requested to identify properties of sufficient size, primarily those owned by the Treasury or municipalities.

It was stated in the circular that social housing projects will be implemented across Turkey under the coordination of the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change and by TOKİ to meet the housing needs of citizens who do not own a home. It was emphasized that the construction of at least 100 housing units for districts with a population of 10,000 or less, and at least 500 housing units for districts with a population of more than 10,000 in city and district centers, is planned.

In the circular, which instructs governors to identify properties of sufficient size, primarily those owned by the Treasury or municipalities, it was underlined that areas close to infrastructure and transportation facilities and suitable for housing construction in terms of land topography should be preferred. It was requested that information regarding land that does not include areas such as agricultural land, forests, irrigation zones, or protected sites be collected and forwarded to the Ministry.

Governorships were requested to provide digital data on property boundaries, approved 1/5,000 and 1/1,000 scale zoning plans if available, or 1/5,000 and 1/1,000 scale current maps if no plan exists, geological-geotechnical survey reports forming the basis for zoning plans, and scanned map sheet samples.

The Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change has built 1 million 481 thousand social housing units and 47 thousand 905 social facilities to date through TOKİ. Earthquake-resistant and modern living spaces have been provided to 5 million low-income citizens. The construction of 312 thousand social housing units is ongoing in 81 provinces.
