Circular from the Ministry of Justice to courts in 81 provinces

In a post on his social media account, Minister Gürlek stated that the circular titled "Combating Organized Crime Groups," prepared by the General Directorate of Criminal Affairs, has been sent to the Chief Public Prosecutor's Offices of 175 High Criminal Courts in 81 provinces.

Stating that the circular aims to ensure that judicial processes against criminal organizations that structure themselves in cities, exploit youth and children, engage in criminal propaganda via social media, and target citizens through extortion, threats, looting, and armed actions are conducted more quickly and effectively, Gürlek noted that investigations will be carried out by public prosecutors specialized in organized crime, and that more than one prosecutor will be assigned when necessary.

Emphasizing that criminal organizations will be targeted not only through their street-level members but also through their leaders, instigators, financial sources, and activities aimed at laundering proceeds of crime, Gürlek noted that criminal proceeds obtained through crypto assets, illegal betting, and similar methods will also be at the center of the investigations.

Stating that all sanctions prescribed by law will be applied against those who attempt to draw children and youth under the influence of criminal organizations, Gürlek expressed that provisions aimed at increasing penalties in cases where children are exploited for organizational purposes will be meticulously observed.

Stating that immediate action will be taken against content on social media that promotes criminal organizations, spreads fear, and directs youth toward crime, Gürlek announced that there will be zero tolerance for criminal propaganda and digital gangs. Noting that secure reporting, confidentiality, and witness protection mechanisms will be operated effectively, Gürlek stated that tradespeople and citizens will not be left to the pressure of criminal organizations.

Conveying that the fight will continue through regular coordination meetings between chief public prosecutor's offices, police, gendarmerie, and relevant institutions in high criminal court centers, Gürlek stated, "No matter what mask anyone hides behind, we will never give way to street gangs, organized crime groups, and structures that disturb the peace of our citizens."
