MHP leader Devlet Bahçeli made a call during his party's parliamentary group meeting, inviting PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan to speak in Parliament. Following this, it was announced that citizens in the Salihli district of Manisa have submitted applications to have Devlet Bahçeli's name removed from the city square.

According to a report by BirGün, the following statement was made by the Salihli Municipality:

"In line with the intense reactions and demands from our public, the petitions submitted to our municipality for the removal of Devlet Bahçeli's name from the city square are an indicator of freedom of expression and the pursuit of justice, which are the most important rights of a democratic society. Our municipality is listening to the voice of our people and is carefully examining and evaluating these requests. We would like to state that we will continue to make all our decisions within the framework of common sense and continue to observe the sensitivities of our people so that our society can live together in peace and tranquility.

No terrorist organization leader can find a legitimate right to speak in the face of our nation's will and values. It should not be forgotten that in these lands watered by the blood of our martyrs, our municipality will continue to stand by the people and defend national sensitivities against all elements that threaten the unity and solidarity of our people. We are aware of our responsibilities for the honor and peace of our nation, and let no one doubt that we will take all necessary steps."
