Claim: Bahçeli's 'Demirtaş' request left unanswered! Statement from ministry sources
It has been claimed that MHP leader Devlet Bahçeli wanted to have a phone conversation with former HDP Co-Chair Selahattin Demirtaş, who is imprisoned in Edirne Prison, but the prison administration left this request unanswered. It was alleged that MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli, the architect of the new opening process that the government calls a 'Terror-Free Turkey,' wanted to speak on the phone with former HDP Co-Chair Selahattin Demirtaş, who is imprisoned in Edirne Prison, but the prison administration left this request unanswered.
According to a report by Ferit Aslan from Medyascope, Bahçeli's chief of staff called Demirtaş's lawyer yesterday afternoon and requested that the conditions for a phone call be met. It was noted that at the same time, DEM Party Imralı Delegation member Pervin Buldan arrived at Edirne Prison.
Buldan, who was informed of Bahçeli's request, asked for this request to be conveyed to the prison warden and for the opportunity for a conversation to be provided through the ministry. Buldan met with Demirtaş for 1 hour, but it was claimed that no response was given to Bahçeli's request for a phone conversation.
MINISTRY SOURCES: NO SUCH REQUEST RECEIVED
Halk TV columnist İsmail Saymaz asked Ministry of Justice officials about the claim in question.
Speaking on the Rota program on Halk TV, Saymaz stated that the ministry told him that no such request had been received from Bahçeli regarding the claim.
Saymaz stated the following:
"Our colleague who reported this news is Ferit Aslan. He is a friend whom I both love and respect, and whose reporting I would not doubt. After seeing this news, I called Ministry of Justice officials. And I asked them whether there was any request from Mr. Devlet Bahçeli to meet with Mr. Demirtaş. Because the report emphasized a phone conversation. Ministry of Justice officials told me that there was no application to the Ministry of Justice from Mr. Bahçeli to meet with Demirtaş. I assume Mr. Bahçeli did not try a path other than the Ministry of Justice. This is the information given to me by the Ministry of Justice officials."
