It has been claimed that a decision was reached on July 24 regarding the master's degree of CHP presidential candidate and İBB Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, whose undergraduate degree was revoked on March 18, who was detained in a dawn operation on March 19, and who was arrested on March 23 on corruption charges.
According to a report by the pro-government newspaper Yeni Şafak, the Rectorate of Istanbul University requested the Directorate of the Institute of Social Sciences to conduct an investigation into 28 individuals, including İmamoğlu, whose diplomas were revoked on the grounds of "non-existence" and "obvious error."
The Istanbul University Institute of Social Sciences decided to invalidate İmamoğlu's master's degree on the grounds that he failed to meet the 'undergraduate graduation' requirement.
In the Yeni Şafak report, which claims that the university administration met on July 24, it was stated: “The university administration, with the decision taken at its meeting dated July 24, 2025, and numbered 28, ruled that İmamoğlu's master's graduation procedures were invalid due to a 'deficiency in conditions.'”
It was also claimed that a unanimous decision was made to remove the graduation thesis prepared by İmamoğlu from the National Thesis Center belonging to the Council of Higher Education (YÖK).
