According to a report by Alican Uludağ from Now Haber, the Ministry of Justice has completed its work on the Criminal Justice package. The draft prepared by the ministry has opened the way for the release of 55,000 convicts.
Uludağ stated, "The Minister of Justice, who will meet with the DEM Party delegation on Friday, is expected to address the issue of sick prisoners convicted of terrorism following their requests and resolve the problem through the Council of Forensic Medicine."
In a statement regarding the details of the news on his social media account, Alican Uludağ used the following expressions:
"The Ministry of Justice has completed its work on the criminal justice package/sentence reduction package.
The prepared draft opens the way for the release of 55,000 convicts.
Those who committed crimes before July 31, 2023, and are currently serving sentences in prison will be included in the scope of 3 years of early supervised release.
Furthermore, the path is being opened for the release of those who have served 4/4 of their sentences due to repeat offenses.
It has been learned that the ministry will present the work to President Erdoğan on Wednesday and, following his approval, will submit it to the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) for the signatures of members of parliament.
On the other hand, it was stated that the study will also include a regulation regarding sick prisoners, but that those convicted of terrorism will not benefit from this.
