Climate activist Greta Thunberg has paid a visit to Diyarbakır. The 21-year-old world-renowned activist, who has been participating in environmental protests regarding climate change and global warming in Sweden since the age of 8, met with Metropolitan Municipality Co-Mayor Serra Bucak during her visit to Diyarbakır.

In a post regarding the visit, the Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality stated, “Our Co-Mayor Serra Bucak hosted Swedish environmental activist Greta Thunberg. During the meeting, ideas were exchanged on the effects of climate change and global warming on nature. Messages of cooperation were shared regarding the promotion of environmental awareness and the protection of nature through joint efforts.”

WHO IS ENVIRONMENTAL ACTIVIST GRETA THUNBERG?

Greta Thunberg, who visited Diyarbakır, was born on January 3, 2003, in Stockholm, Sweden, to an actor father and a world-famous opera singer mother. The young activist encountered the terms climate change and global warming at the age of 8 and learned that these problems were caused by human activity. Falling into a depression at the age of 11 due to the disappointment she felt, Thunberg stopped eating and speaking during this period; when taken to a doctor, she was diagnosed with Asperger's syndrome, a form of autism, and selective mutism.
