Closed session in Turkish Parliament on Iran war: Fidan and Güler to provide briefing
The Grand National Assembly of Turkey is entering the new week with a busy agenda. Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and Minister of National Defense Yaşar Güler are expected to brief lawmakers in the General Assembly on the war between the US-Israel and Iran, as well as regional developments. Legislative proposals covering various topics, from paid military service to tax regulations, may also come to the floor.

The foreign policy agenda will take center stage in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey this week. Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and Minister of National Defense Yaşar Güler are scheduled to brief lawmakers in the General Assembly on Tuesday.
The session, which will address the war between the US-Israel and Iran and recent regional developments, is expected to be held behind closed doors. Ministers are expected to answer questions from lawmakers following their presentations.
DISCUSSIONS CONTINUE ON NATIONAL PARKS REGULATION
The General Assembly will also address the Draft Law on the Amendment of the National Parks Law and Certain Laws and Decree-Law No. 375, which is currently under discussion.
Discussions have already been held on 21 articles of the 36-article proposal. The goal is to enact the proposal once the remaining articles are completed.
PAID MILITARY SERVICE AND TAX REGULATIONS MAY COME TO THE AGENDA
Following the completion of the National Parks proposal, the new legislative proposal that passed the Planning and Budget Committee last week is expected to be brought to the General Assembly agenda.
The proposal in question includes:
- An increase in the fee for paid military service,
- Tax regulations,
- The imposition of Special Consumption Tax (ÖTV) on diamonds and similar precious stones,
- Discounts for cash purchases of disaster housing.
IFTAR PROGRAMS BY NUMAN KURTULMUŞ
The iftar programs organized by Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş as part of the month of Ramadan will continue this week.
Kurtulmuş is scheduled to meet with parliamentary correspondents on Monday, March 9. On Tuesday, March 10, he will host an iftar dinner for members of the opening commission.
BUSY AGENDA IN COMMITTEES
Meetings on various topics will also be held in parliamentary committees.
The Research Commission on Children Driven to Crime will receive presentations from the Ankara Bar Association No. 1 and No. 2 on Wednesday, March 11.
Meanwhile, a regulation proposing to increase maternity leave for women from 16 to 24 weeks, extending paternity leave to 10 days to include the private sector, and imposing a social media ban for those under 15 will be discussed in the Health, Family, Labor and Social Affairs Committee on Thursday, March 12.
PARTIES TO HOLD GROUP MEETINGS
Political party group meetings will also be held in Parliament this week. President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is expected to speak at the AKP group meeting.
The New Way group will not meet this week, as it has decided not to hold group meetings throughout the month of Ramadan.
