Colombia’s Cartagena Port authorities have seized 151 kilograms of cocaine hidden inside a container loaded with buttons, which was destined for Istanbul.
According to a report by Voice of America, the Colombian Directorate of Criminal Investigation and Interpol (DIJIN) announced that the operation was carried out by teams from the Anti-Narcotics Directorate.
According to the report, the container loaded with cocaine, which had been loaded in Ecuador and was in transit to Colombia’s Cartagena Port, was located at the stern of a ship waiting to depart for Turkey.
COCAINE BY THE PACKAGE
During inspections conducted by narcotics teams at the port, the container loaded with buttons was opened, revealing a white powdery substance placed inside rectangular packages wrapped in brown plastic, marked with a circular JP logo, and contained within nine sacks with red stripes. Tests confirmed that the substance was cocaine.
According to the report, Colonel Ricardo Sanchez, Director of the Colombian Anti-Narcotics Unit, stated in a video posted on social media, “151 kilograms of powdered cocaine were seized in a container loaded with corozo buttons (a type of button made from palm seeds) that arrived from Ecuador and was headed to Turkey. The participation of the Ecuadorian Police also played an important role in the seizure of the drugs intended to be sent to Istanbul.”
