Commemoration ceremony for Mattia Ahmet Minguzzi
At the Salı Pazarı (Tuesday Market) in Kadıköy, family members and supporters called for justice during a commemoration ceremony held on the first anniversary of the murder of Mattia Ahmet Minguzzi. The event, attended by the family and several politicians, also brought the legal process to the agenda.

A year has passed since Mattia Ahmet Minguzzi was subjected to a knife attack while shopping with friends at the Kadıköy Salı Pazarı (flea market) on January 24, 2025. The young man was rushed to the hospital with severe injuries and passed away approximately 17 days later.
COMMEMORATION CEREMONY HELD AT SALIPAZARI
The commemoration ceremony, held on January 23, 2026, at the “Justice and Conscience Meeting” in the park adjacent to the Kadıköy Salıpazarı, was attended by the Minguzzi family as well as many supporters. Mother Yasemin Minguzzi and father Andre Minguzzi were present at the ceremony and once again demanded justice at the site where their son was murdered.
One of the notable figures attending the ceremony was Dilek İmamoğlu, the wife of the imprisoned Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu.
LEGAL PROCESS CONTINUES
In the case initiated following the incident, two detained defendants (B.B. and U.B.) were sentenced to 24 years in prison each for the crime of “intentional murder against a child” without any sentence reductions. The other two defendants were acquitted.
The Istanbul Regional Court of Justice 1st Criminal Chamber (Appellate Court) upheld the 24-year sentences handed down by the local court on January 22, 2026, finding them in accordance with the law. The acquittal decisions were also upheld. Appeals filed by the family and some public institutions were rejected. The file is currently under review by the Court of Cassation, and the final decision will be rendered by the Court of Cassation.
