The disciplinary investigation launched into five lieutenants who chanted "We are the soldiers of Mustafa Kemal" while crossing their swords at the official Military Academy graduation ceremony held on August 30, 2024, has concluded. The lieutenants have been dismissed from the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK).
The file referred to the High Disciplinary Board (YDK) was evaluated by the Land Forces Command. Following a meeting held yesterday, the YDK decided by majority vote to terminate the lieutenants' connection with the TSK. While some board members objected to the decision, the justification for the disciplinary penalty has not yet been formally served to the lieutenants or their lawyers.
STATEMENT FROM THE MINISTRY OF NATIONAL DEFENSE
The Ministry of National Defense (MSB) announced the dismissal decision in a press release published on its official website. The Ministry also reported that three disciplinary supervisors to whom the lieutenants were attached were also given the penalty of "separation from the Armed Forces."
COMPENSATION PENALTY LOOMING
The dismissed lieutenants plan to initiate legal proceedings once the decision is formally communicated to them in writing. If the decision remains unchanged, the lieutenants will be required to pay compensation to the state for the education and training expenses they received.
