Competition Authority fines Google over 'hotel search' practices

The Competition Authority (RK) has announced that, as part of its investigation into local search services, the daily administrative fine imposed on Google has been halted, and the company has been fined a total of 482 million TL for the period during which it failed to implement remedial measures regarding hotel search queries.
The Competition Authority had announced in May that a daily fine amounting to 5/10,000 of its daily revenue would be applied to Google until it fulfilled certain outstanding obligations.
In a statement issued by the Competition Authority, it was noted that "it has been determined that Google completed the process on 21.05.2024 by implementing the designs that were previously found not to have been applied in terms of local search services for hotel queries," and the following was stated:
"In this regard, the Board has decided to terminate the daily administrative fine as of 21.05.2024 and to impose a total fine of approximately 482 million TL on Google as a sanction for its failure to apply the new designs regarding local search services to hotel queries."
