Stating that he had served as an editor for some of İlber Ortaylı's important books, Cem Küçük expressed the following:

I served as an editor for some of İlber Ortaylı's important books between 2005 and 2012. When my youngest son was born in 2012 and I told him we would name him İlber, he said, 'Add Han to it, let it be İlber Han.' That is what we did. He was a great historian and a wonderful person. We would meet and talk from time to time. If not, we would chat over the phone. May he rest in peace.
