'Confessor' Aziz İhsan Aktaş's companies placed under trusteeship: All companies transferred to TMSF

A new development has occurred regarding Aziz İhsan Aktaş, who has emerged as a key figure in operations targeting CHP-run municipalities and is alleged to be the 'leader of a criminal organization' within the same investigation.

All of Aziz İhsan Aktaş's assets have been seized. All his assets have been transferred to the TMSF.

CAME TO THE FOREFRONT WITH THE OPERATION TARGETING BEŞİKTAŞ MUNICIPALITY

On December 30, 2023, a private jet landing at Diyarbakır Airport skidded off the runway, the runway was closed to traffic for a while, and the Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecutor's Office launched an investigation into the matter.

News reports stated that the owner of the jet was Aziz İhsan Aktaş.

The reports that brought Aktaş's name to the public agenda were published on the morning of January 13, 2025.

That morning, dozens of people were detained as part of an investigation conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office into a "criminal organization allegedly led by" Aktaş.

Stating that the suspects had been followed for approximately three months, the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office alleged that "this organization organized tenders by bribing mayors and senior municipal officials."

As part of the investigation, approximately 40 people, including the then-mayor of Beşiktaş, Rıza Akpolat, were first detained on January 13.

Those detained were faced with charges such as "membership in a criminal organization," "rigging tenders," and "unjust enrichment."

Denying the accusations against him, Akpolat stated that he did not believe there were any irregularities in the tenders held by the municipality and that he had no connection with Aktaş.

A detention warrant was also issued as part of this investigation for the former mayor of Esenyurt, Ahmet Özer, who was arrested on October 30, 2024, on charges of "membership in an armed terrorist organization" and removed from office, as well as for some officials of the Esenyurt Municipality.

Özer, who is currently in prison, was also arrested in this investigation on charges of "rigging tenders."

In his statement, Özer denied the allegations against him, stating that he had no responsibility in the tender processes in his capacity as mayor and that he did not know Aktaş.

WHAT ARE THE ACCUSATIONS?

In the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office's statement regarding the first operation, Aktaş and 24 suspects were mentioned in connection with the alleged organization.

Aktaş was also detained as part of this operation.

A precautionary measure was imposed by seizing the assets of his companies.

Aktaş was charged with "establishing and managing a criminal organization," "membership in a criminal organization," "bribery," "rigging tenders," "rigging the performance of an act," and "laundering assets."

Trustees have been appointed to 23 companies belonging to Aziz İhsan Aktaş, who plays a key role in the investigations launched into CHP-run municipalities.
