The Democrat Party is preparing to hold a congress on November 17, 2024.
With only days left until the congress, Democrat Party Deputy Chairman and Istanbul MP Cemal Enginyurt and Democrat Party İzmir MP Salih Uzun announced their decision not to take part in the congress.
"THE CONGRESS DECISION WAS MADE AS A FAIT ACCOMPLI"
In a joint statement, the two figures recalled that the Democrat Party had a legal window until March 2025 to hold its congress, stating, “The Democrat Party is being rushed into a grand congress on November 17, 2024. This congress decision, made with an incomprehensible 'fait accompli,' will neither bring benefits to our party nor offer hope to center-right politics. It is clear that it does not align with the need for reorganization and the search for a new path that our community has long been yearning for.”
Noting that they had repeatedly expressed that the congress date should be changed but that their requests were ignored, Enginyurt and Uzun added, “The party management and boards to be formed with such an approach will, from the very beginning, be severed from the historical mission and obligations that the Democrat Party must uphold. The issue is undoubtedly not one of a calendar, but one of mindset.”
The two MPs expressed their decision not to take part in the management to be formed at the congress with the following words:
“As a result, we would like to respectfully inform the public and the Democrat Party community in advance that we will not be candidates for any board membership at the upcoming congress and will not take any role in the party management to be formed with this approach.”
