The Constitutional Court (AYM) has issued a critical ruling regarding the "Law on Amendments to the Animal Protection Law and Certain Other Laws," which has been on the public agenda for a long time and includes new regulations concerning stray animals.
The court unanimously rejected the application filed for the annulment of the legal amendments in question.
THE LAW ENTERED INTO FORCE IN 2024
The law in question was passed by the Grand National Assembly of Turkey and entered into force in 2024. It had sparked controversy, particularly due to its provisions allowing for the collection of stray animals, their placement in shelters, and the application of euthanasia when necessary.
