It has been learned that the Land Rover brand SUV with license plate 34 EKE 86, which was the subject of the incident that took place on the night connecting Friday, September 20, 2024, to Saturday, had exited Bulgaria while Ediz Ün was inside. On the night of the same day, it was observed that the SUV entered Kapıkule while Deputy Ediz Ün was in the driver's seat. Within the scope of the investigation launched, it was determined that CHP Edirne Deputy Ediz Ün had entered the country alone in the same vehicle used for smuggling on the day of the incident. It is alleged that CHP Deputy Ün, who stopped at a gas station on the road as soon as he crossed the border, picked up the driver and the other suspect accused of smuggling there.
PROSECUTOR'S SURVEILLANCE DECISION
The vehicle in question was followed with the permission of the Edirne Chief Public Prosecutor's Office. Teams from the Anti-Smuggling and Organized Crime (KOM) branch of the Edirne Police Department waited to intervene because CHP Deputy Ün was in the vehicle. The Anti-Smuggling and Organized Crime branch teams began following the vehicle again after Deputy Ediz Ün was dropped off at his home. The vehicle with license plate 34 EKE 86 entered the TEM Highway through the toll booths and headed towards Istanbul.
SUSPICION OF SMUGGLING AND ATTEMPT TO STOP
The driver of the vehicle turned on the emergency lights and roof beacons before reaching the toll booths and passed through. The vehicle was stopped after passing through the toll booths. According to the information obtained, those in the vehicle, realizing they were being followed and would be stopped at the toll booths, passed through the booths by turning on all the roof beacons and emergency lights—4 on the front grille, 2 on the windshield, and 1 on the roof. After a certain period, the vehicle was stopped by police teams. Upon the vehicle being stopped, information was provided to CHP Deputy Ün by his driver.
COMMUNICATION WITH POLICE AND VEHICLE SEARCH
Although Ün stated that no one could search his vehicle, the police insisted on the search warrant, stating that there was an instruction from the prosecutor's office. Even though the police said, “There is tracked contraband in your vehicle,” Ün did not give permission, spoke to the police on the phone, and hung up by saying, “Let the prosecutor call me.” Later, the prosecutor called by phone and emphasized that the vehicle needed to be searched. After saying, “There is suspected contraband in the trunk. It will be checked!”, Ün said, “You can only check the trunk. You will not check the interior of the vehicle!” However, upon the public prosecutor's response that 'if the vehicle is not searched here, it will definitely be stopped and searched on the road; if we don't search it, Istanbul will,' the vehicle was brought to the Kapıkule Customs area, the materials in the trunk were seized again, and the vehicle was returned to CHP Edirne Deputy Ediz Ün.
MOMENTS OF ENTERTAINMENT
Shortly after the smuggling incident, footage of CHP Deputy Ediz Ün having fun at one of the city's famous nightclubs emerged. In the footage, Ün was seen dancing and having fun with 2 women accompanying him to the accompaniment of the 10th Year March. It was also seen that on the illuminated board above the DJ booth at the venue, which Ün is said to visit frequently, it read, “Welcome to Pena, CHP Edirne Deputy Mr. Ediz Ün.” It was also stated that Ün had 50 bottles of champagne opened for a woman.
