Contradiction in effective remorse testimony in IMM investigation: iPhone 16s allegedly distributed at the convention were released 1 year later
Ahmet Çiçek, who is under arrest as part of the corruption investigation launched into the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM), has provided testimony under the effective remorse law. Çiçek claimed that Murat Kapki, who was also arrested in the same investigation, gave him 7 iPhone 16 Pro Max devices in exchange for a payment during a meeting at his office. Although Çiçek alleged that these phones were 'convention phones,' it emerged that Apple did not introduce this model until September 9, 2024. The CHP convention, which is alleged to have been suspicious, was held on November 4-5, 2023.

"MURAT KAPKİ GAVE 7 IPHONE 16 PRO MAX DEVICES INSTEAD OF PAYMENT"
According to a report by Yeni Şafak, which is known for its proximity to the government, Çiçek described a meeting at the office of advertiser Murat Kapki, who is also under arrest in the same investigation, stating: “Instead of the payment he was going to make to me, he gave me 7 ‘iPhone 16 Pro Max’ devices. When I asked what the deal was with the phones, he laughed and said, ‘These were left over.’ I accepted the phones. I suspect that these phones are the ones that were distributed to CHP delegates at the suspicious congress mentioned in the news and were left over,” he said.
THE PHONE WAS RELEASED 1 YEAR AFTER THE CONVENTION
As reported by Sözcü, it has emerged that the sales date in Turkey for the phones that Çiçek said he 'suspects were distributed' was almost 1 year later.
Apple introduced the iPhone 16 series on September 9, 2024, opened them for pre-order on Friday, September 13, 2024, and officially put them on sale in more than 58 countries, including Turkey, on Friday, September 20, 2024.
