Controversial remarks from Numan Kurtulmuş against those opposing the peace process! 'Jackals...'

Speaking on the second peace process, dubbed 'Terror-Free Turkey,' Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş drew backlash for his remarks: 'There are jackals who do not want the process to succeed. Either we will win, or the imperialists will.'

Speaking at the Adıyaman University 2025-2026 Academic Year Opening Program, Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş made striking statements regarding the new peace process, referred to under the headings of 'right to hope for Apo' and 'Terror-Free Turkey.'

In his speech, Kurtulmuş targeted those opposing the process with the words, 'There are jackals who do not want the process to succeed. Either we will win, or the imperialists will.'


These words from the Parliament Speaker sparked a debate in a short time. One of the criticisms came from retired Major General Ahmet Yavuz. In a post on his social media account, Yavuz stated the following:

“Goodness, what kind of expression is this? Can the Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey use such an expression? Where is freedom of expression! These expressions are essentially a reflection of an ideological bankruptcy and a mentality that has entered a crisis.”
