In Istanbul, 2 of the 4 suspects detained in connection with the deaths of 19 people who were hospitalized due to counterfeit alcohol have been arrested.
As part of the investigation launched by the Küçükçekmece Chief Public Prosecutor's Office regarding the deaths of 19 out of 65 people who were hospitalized due to reasons linked to counterfeit alcohol consumption in Başakşehir, Sarıyer, Fatih, and Kağıthane, the police processing of Turkmen nationals Agazhan O. and Amangül D., who were detained on the grounds that they sold some of these drinks at the restaurant they operated, has been completed.
The two suspects were sent to the Küçükçekmece Courthouse. Aydın A. and Mehmet K., who were apprehended during the continuation of the police teams' efforts, were arrested by the judgeship at the courthouse to which they were referred.
19 people lost their lives, 43 people in hospital
Of the 65 people hospitalized across Istanbul due to poisoning from counterfeit alcohol, 19 could not be saved despite medical intervention, while 3 people were discharged following their treatment. The treatment of 43 people poisoned by counterfeit alcohol continues in hospitals.
