Court of Accounts auditors calculated the Diyanet's tax revenues: Almost all of its income comes from taxes
The 2023 revenues of the Presidency of Religious Affairs (Diyanet), which is occasionally the target of criticism due to its massive budget, have been revealed in a Court of Accounts report.

THE BULK OF INCOME IS FROM TAXES
The Presidency of Religious Affairs generated a total income of 585 million 595 thousand 508 TL in 2023.
Of the total 585.5 million TL income, 407 million 834 thousand 475 TL consisted of tax revenues.
In addition to the 407.8 million TL in tax revenue obtained from citizens' money, the Diyanet's other income items were listed as follows:
Donations, aid, and special revenues: 75.3 million TL
Enterprise and property revenues: 13.8 million TL
Other revenues: 84.7 million TL
407 MILLION LIRA TAX REVENUE
The scale of the income the Diyanet obtained between 2020 and 2023 also drew attention. It was reported that the presidency, which had 407.8 million TL in tax revenue in 2023, had 462.9 million TL in 2022, 937.1 million TL in 2021, and 738 million TL in 2020.
IT HAD 11 BILLION LIRA IN EXPENSES
The presidency's income and expenditure balance for 2023 was also shared with the Court of Accounts. It was stated that the Diyanet, which generated a net income of 340 million 209 thousand TL in 2023, also had expenses of 11 billion 426 million 960 thousand TL. Accordingly, the difference between the presidency's income and expenses amounted to minus 11 billion 86 million 750 thousand TL.
