Crane chain snaps, 2 workers fall to their deaths

In the Bayraklı district of İzmir, 2 workers who were reportedly lifted to the 10th floor of a plaza by a crane to hang an advertising sign fell after the crane's chain snapped, sustaining critical injuries. The workers could not be saved despite being rushed to the hospital.

The incident occurred in front of a plaza on Fethi Sekin Street. According to the information obtained, Halil Gül (34) and Hüsnü Akan (35), who worked for an advertising agency, were lifted to the 10th floor of the plaza by a crane to hang an advertising sign. When the crane's chain snapped for reasons yet to be determined, the workers fell from a height of several meters along with the basket they were in.

Upon notification, police and medical teams were dispatched to the scene. While the police took security measures in the area, medical teams determined that the workers were critically injured; Hüsnü Akan was taken to Bayraklı City Hospital, and Halil Gül was taken to Ege University Faculty of Medicine Hospital.

Despite the interventions at the hospitals, Gül and Akan could not be saved and lost their lives, while the crane owner, E.P., and the crane operator, F.Y., were taken into custody by police teams regarding the incident. The bodies of Gül and Akan were moved to the İzmir Forensic Medicine Institute morgue following the prosecutor's examination.

An investigation into the incident has been launched.
