Nefes newspaper columnist Nuray Babacan wrote that the file in which Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu—who has been announced as the CHP's presidential candidate—is accused has caused significant discomfort within AKP circles.
According to Babacan, the file and the allegations in question fell well short of expectations within the ruling camp. Stating that some prominent figures within the AKP reacted by saying, "There is nothing in these files, is this the entirety of the operation?", Babacan also wrote that these individuals were given the response, "We haven't disclosed everything, there are other documents." However, Babacan pointed to the uncertainty of the situation by stating, "At this point, it is a matter of curiosity where 'information and documents' that are not in the indictments will come from."
On the other hand, Babacan noted that some AKP politicians have openly expressed their disappointment regarding the process. She stated that these individuals revealed their concerns about the perception of the case with the words, "Whatever we do from now on, this case has already been branded as political..."
