In the case concerning the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, the motion for recusal of the judges filed by the lawyers of CHP's imprisoned presidential candidate Ekrem İmamoğlu has been unsuccessful.

According to a report in Birgün, the application, which was filed on the grounds that the right to defense was violated and that the court panel had lost its impartiality, was rejected by the Istanbul 33rd High Criminal Court.

İMAMOĞLU HAD BEEN REMOVED FROM THE COURTROOM, RECORDED AS 'RIGHT TO REMAIN SILENT' IN THE MINUTES

İmamoğlu's lawyers had objected to their client being removed from the courtroom during the July 8 hearing before his defense was taken, and to his statements being recorded in the minutes as the "right to remain silent."

The application requested the recusal of Presiding Judge Selçuk Aylan and member judges Onur Yılmaz and Ensar Raşit Dağlı; the petition argued that the right to a fair trial had been compromised.
