Critical appointments in the Police and Gendarmerie: Security of Sinop and Çankırı entrusted to women

Appointments regarding the General Directorate of Security, the Gendarmerie General Command, and the Coast Guard Command have been published in the Official Gazette.

According to the appointment decisions published with the signature of AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Gendarmerie General Commander General Arif Çetin was retired, and his deputy, General Ali Çardakçı, became the Gendarmerie General Commander.

Çetin's remarks at the Gendarmerie graduation ceremony attended by Erdoğan, “We did not come to be masters of this nation, but to be its servants. In the Century of Turkey, we are also ready to defend the flag in the footsteps of our heroic martyrs,” had become a topic of discussion.

POLICE CHIEF CHANGED

According to the report in Hürriyet, one of the most significant changes in the General Directorate of Security with the decree was the removal of the current Director General of Security, Erol Ayyıldız, from his post. Ayyıldız, who was appointed as the Director General of Security while serving as the Governor of Eskişehir after Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya took office, was made the Governor of Bursa. He was replaced by Mahmut Demirtaş, the Governor of Bursa, who previously served in Adıyaman, Adana, and Mardin.

While the police chiefs of major cities such as Istanbul, Ankara, and Izmir remained in their posts, the police chiefs of 16 cities were reassigned to the center, a practice known as a “sidelined duty.” Among those removed from their posts were the Police Chiefs of Antalya, Adıyaman, Aksaray, Amasya, Aydın, Bayburt, Bolu, Çanakkale, Eskişehir, Giresun, Gümüşhane, Karaman, Kütahya, Niğde, Sinop, and Yalova. Some of the police chiefs reassigned to the center are expected to take up duties abroad, while others are expected to serve in the central organization.

COAST GUARD REMAINED THE SAME

There was no change in the Coast Guard Command, the other armed force under the Ministry of Interior. The current Coast Guard Commander, Rear Admiral Ahmet Kendir, was promoted to the rank of Vice Admiral and continued in his post. Rear Admiral Cengiz Ünver was promoted to Vice Admiral, and Colonel Ertuğrul Şerbetçi was promoted to Rear Admiral. Appointments were also made to the Aegean Sea Regional Command, the Marmara and Straits Regional Command, and the Air Command.

FEMALE COMMANDER FOR ÇANKIRI

Colonel Gülden Mat Şakir, who was serving at the Gendarmerie and Coast Guard Academy, became the Gendarmerie Commander of Çankırı. Brigadier Generals Mustafa Erdem, Metin Düz, and Uğur Ertekin were promoted to Major General. In addition, 16 colonels will begin their duties as brigadier generals. It was stated that some of those reassigned to the center would be appointed to central and overseas duties, as is the case in the Police.

NEW POLICE CHIEF FOR SINOP

New police chiefs were appointed to 23 cities in the appointments. Central Police Chief Sibel Kılıçoğlu was appointed to Sinop. The appointment of a female police chief to a province after a long time drew attention. In the appointments, the police chiefs of 17 cities were assigned from the center. It was noted that 12 Chief Police Inspectors were among these names. Among those brought to duty from the center, Narcotics President Ahmet Metin Turanlı was appointed as the provincial police chief of Tekirdağ, Public Order Department Head Tolga Yılmaz to Eskişehir, and Cyber Crimes Combat Department Head Faruk Aydın to Tokat.
