Ercan stated, "Burdur is located within the Fethiye-Gölhisar-Burdur graben, within a possible ancient fossil subduction zone," and warned, "The tension accumulation rate of the normal, left-lateral strike-slip southern fault is faster than the northern one, at 0.7 - 1 cm compared to 0.3-0.4 cm, causing it to twist. The south of the lake is seismically active."

"A fault cuts and displaces a solid structure on solid ground, but it does not destroy it. What destroys is the resonance of the P, S, and R waves emanating from the focus with the structure. There is nowhere to run from the faults in Burdur. The city must be urgently scanned for seismic activity and ground-structure resonance through measurements.
The section of Burdur around the Ulucami area and the Upper Bazaar (Yukarı Pazar) are seismically safe. A large portion of the city sits on loose stream deposits. High-rise construction should never be permitted. The old neighborhoods where low-income residents live must be urgently subjected to urban transformation, and the city should not be expanded.
Burdur is expanding towards the south with stepped, normal faults. With every earthquake, the lake sinks a little more. Building check dams on the streams feeding Lake Burdur is drying up the lake. Rainfall is not sufficient. Natural life must be protected. The lake is drying up.
