CHP Deputy Chairman responsible for the Ministry of National Defense, retired Admiral Yankı Bağcıoğlu, issued important warnings regarding the maritime operation Israel plans to launch against Lebanon.
In a written statement on the matter, Bağcıoğlu said: “The announcement that the Israeli army will launch a maritime operation against Hezbollah and its warning to civilians off the coast of Lebanon not to approach the sea raises a significant concern.
The region Israel has announced as its operational area overlaps with the field where the United Nations (UN) Peacekeeping Force operates in Lebanon. We also have a warship in the area where Israel plans to attack. This development must be followed closely because it creates a serious security issue,” he stated.
Stating that the effectiveness of the UN Maritime Task Force operating off the coast of Lebanon and the continued presence of the Turkish corvette in the region are of critical importance, Bağcıoğlu said, “The safety of our corvette must be ensured immediately. The rising tension in the region could put the survival of our naval assets at risk.”

Bağcıoğlu also stated that the evacuation of Turkish citizens in Lebanon has become urgent and that necessary steps must be taken before the situation worsens further, adding, “If necessary, we must not lose time in evacuating our citizens by air or sea. We have been issuing our warnings on this matter for months.”
