Critical messages from Hakan Fidan in Budapest: 'We are at a turning point in the Russia-Ukraine War'

Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan attended the Informal Meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) held in Budapest, the capital of Hungary. The meeting was recorded as the first event hosted by Hungary in its capacity as an observer member.

EMPHASIS ON UNITY IN THE TURKIC WORLD

In his speech at the meeting, Fidan drew attention to the increasingly strengthening cooperation of the Turkic World, pointing out that the current international system is insufficient in producing peace, stability, and justice. Minister Fidan stated that in this environment, the Organization of Turkic States is acting with a sense of regional ownership and is progressing by increasing solidarity.

MESSAGE ON TRNC AND KARABAKH

Addressing the isolation of Turkish Cypriots in his speech, Minister Fidan expressed that it is a responsibility to provide a joint response against this injustice. Fidan said, "The TRNC, which was accepted as an observer member to our Organization at our Samarkand Summit, is an inseparable part of our family council."

Furthermore, speaking clearly on the issue of Karabakh, Fidan used the expression, "Together with other OTS countries, we will continue to stand by dear Azerbaijan in the strongest way, as we always have."

Touching upon the issue of Palestine, Minister Fidan said that hunger and displacement are being used as threats against civilians in the region. Stating that the international community cannot remain silent in the face of this picture, Fidan said, "Taking effective and decisive steps against Israel is now a necessity."

APPROACHES IN SYRIA HAVE YIELDED CONCRETE RESULTS

Stating that Turkey's intensive diplomatic efforts on the Syrian issue have yielded results, Fidan emphasized that the Damascus administration has begun to re-establish contact with regional and international actors. Fidan expressed that it is of special importance for OTS members to support Syria during this process.

One of the most notable parts of Minister Fidan's speech was regarding the Russia-Ukraine war. Stating that the search for a diplomatic solution in the war has reached a critical threshold, Fidan said the following:

"We are at a turning point on the path to a diplomatic solution in the Russia-Ukraine war. We hope that the talks held in Istanbul will pave the way for a comprehensive ceasefire and subsequently a just and lasting peace."
