Critical statement from Naci Görür following the 6.1 magnitude tremor

A 6.1 magnitude earthquake occurred in the Sındırgı district of Balıkesir at 19:53. The earthquake was also felt in surrounding provinces in the Marmara region, including Istanbul. Immediately following the earthquake, aftershocks with magnitudes of 4.0, 4.1, and 4.6 were recorded.

EARTHQUAKE STATEMENT FROM PROF. DR. NACİ GÖRÜR

Geoscientist Prof. Dr. Naci Görür made an assessment regarding the earthquake on social media. Görür stated that the 6.1 magnitude earthquake in Sındırgı occurred on the Sındırgı Segment of the Simav Fault Zone. Görür said, "It is a right-lateral strike-slip fault. It is not a small earthquake; there may be damage. However, I do not think there will be a larger earthquake."

Prof. Dr. Görür pointed out that people should stay away from houses for a while following the earthquake. Emphasizing that potential damage must be evaluated carefully, Görür said, "Stay away from houses for a while."
