Critical warning for Turkey following Assad's collapse in Syria

Jihadist groups led by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), which launched an operation against the Bashar al-Assad regime in Syria on November 27, took control of Damascus yesterday (December 8).

Following HTS's consolidation of control in the capital, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad fled the country and took refuge in Russia.

While there is curiosity about how the developments in Syria will affect Turkey, Halk TV columnist Fikret Bila made striking assessments.

Stating that the overthrow of the Assad regime in Syria is a step in the Greater Middle East Project (BOP) directed by the US, the UK, and Israel, Bila expressed that the terrorist organization PKK-YPG and the jihadist HTS structure, which will have a say in the reshaping of Syria, will pose a threat to Turkey.

"NOW THE TARGET IS IRAN, AND AFTER THAT, IT IS TURKEY"

Emphasizing that both organizations are at odds with the secular and democratic Republic of Turkey, Bila noted the following in his article titled "Two threats":

“The PKK terrorist organization is against the nation-state and unitary state structure of the Republic of Turkey founded by Atatürk.

The ultimate goal of this terrorist organization is to combine four parts to be carved out of Syria, Iraq, Iran, and Turkey to establish a Greater Kurdistan state.

Two legs of this goal have been completed with the support of the US and Israel.

After the Kurdish autonomous region was established in Northern Iraq, a PKK-YPG statelet was also established in northern Syria, and an army was formed with US support and training.

Look at the irony of history: the PKK terrorist organization, which father Hafez al-Assad protected and supported against Turkey, could not divide Turkey but has divided Syria, which was under his patronage.

Now the target is Iran, and after that, it is Turkey.

HTS is also a structure that is at odds with Turkey.

Like other radical Islamist organizations, this organization is also against the secular nature of Turkey.

The PKK-YPG statelet holds sway in the east of Turkey's 910-kilometer border with Syria, while the radical Islamist HTS structure holds sway in the west.

While HTS is creating an Afghanistan in the region it dominates, the PKK-YPG has established its own statelet.

What is happening in Syria is an imperialist war of partition.

Throughout the civil war, Assad was able to survive with the support of Russia and Iran.

However, Russia dedicating its main military power to the Ukraine war and Israel dealing heavy blows to Hezbollah and Hamas have weakened Assad.

Instead of giving more support to Assad, Russia has preferred to reach an agreement with the US to protect its bases in Tartus and Latakia and to remain in the Eastern Mediterranean.

Pro-government circles in Turkey are rejoicing at the overthrow of Assad and HTS entering Damascus.

The reason for this is undoubtedly that the government in Turkey is cold toward the principle of secularism and warm toward Islamist movements and organizations.

The state-building of the PKK-YPG and the radical Islamist HTS in the south of Turkey is not a situation to be rejoiced over for Turkey.

It should not be forgotten that both are against the Republic of Turkey, which possesses secular, democratic, unitary, and nation-state characteristics.

Of course, it should also not be forgotten that after establishing the new Syria, the target of the US and Israel will be Iran and Turkey.”
