Cübbeli Ahmet responds to Ersin Tatar's 'He cost me votes' remark: I regret it

The 5th President of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), Ersin Tatar, met with a group of journalists from Turkey in Nicosia. Evaluating the 36 percent vote share he received against his rival Tufan Erhürman in the presidential election, Tatar argued that some of the support given to his campaign had backfired.

While answering a question regarding support from Turkey, Tatar criticized the video released by Ahmet Mahmut Ünlü, known by the nickname Cübbeli Ahmet.

Nevzat Çiçek, on his YouTube channel, conveyed Ünlü's statements. In his remarks, Ünlü said the following:

"He met with me several times. One of these meetings was via video call, and he asked me to pray for him. I prayed for him both during the video call and from the pulpit.

How was I to know he was so lacking in faith? My friends saw the news and told me about it.

After seeing the news, I said, 'It must be that you needed to lose for God to have me pray for you.'

II later heard that his wife had made remarks about headscarved students studying in Cyprus. After hearing this, I regretted having prayed for him."
