Curious petitions submitted to the Turkish Parliament's Petition Commission! Will the licenses of those who don't use turn signals be revoked?

The Turkish Parliament's (TBMM) Petition Commission has reached decisions on applications received from citizens. Among the requests recently submitted to the commission were some curious petitions.

A citizen who applied to the Petition Commission requested that orthodontic treatments for individuals over the age of 18 that are not for aesthetic purposes be covered by the Social Security Institution (SGK).

A citizen who applied to the commission from Istanbul requested an increase in maternity leave durations.

One citizen applied to the Petition Commission to abolish the possibility for divorced women or women whose husbands have passed away to receive their fathers' pensions, and instead requested that pensions be granted to women who have maintained their marriages for a long time.

COMPLAINED ABOUT THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY WALL

A citizen who applied from Ankara requested that the appearance at the junction of the wall and the floor in the TBMM General Assembly be corrected.

In the response letter from the TBMM Department of Operations and Construction regarding this request, it was stated that the seating and usage layout in the General Assembly was reorganized to meet requirements as a result of a national architectural design competition. Reminding that the architectural project selected as a result of the competition was implemented in 1997, the response stated, "Changes intended to be made in the General Assembly Hall, both in terms of function and aesthetics, are subject to the permission of the architect who won the competition project due to architectural copyrights. In this direction, the proposal in question will be evaluated if the author architect is consulted and deems it appropriate."

The Commission decided that no further action could be taken by the Commission other than the aforementioned explanation.

STREET WEDDING APPLICATION

A citizen who applied to the Petition Commission from Van requested that a legal regulation be made to ban street weddings and the setting off of fireworks at these weddings.

A citizen who applied from Ankara requested that a legal regulation be made so that, in addition to the administrative fine applied to drivers who do not use their turn signals when turning or changing lanes in traffic, the sanction of revoking their driver's license could also be applied.

EUTHANASIA APPLICATION

A citizen who applied to the Petition Commission submitted a request to be euthanized in reaction to the putting down of stray dogs.

A citizen who complained about having to pay for the swimming pool in the housing complex where they live, despite never using it, applied to the Commission for a legal regulation to be made so that the payment is only collected from those who use the pool.

REMOVING CRIMINALS FROM FAMILY TREES

Requests were also submitted to the Commission to allow public officials to engage in trade; to create a local government model where mayors are elected and serve without being affiliated with political parties; to increase the lowest disability and retirement pensions to the level of one Republic gold coin; and to grant various professional groups, non-governmental organizations, unions, and professional organizations that are public institutions the authority to propose legislation.

Exempting game consoles from customs duty, preventing consanguineous marriage, establishing an Istanbul-based Ministry of Maritime Affairs, abolishing the free travel right of citizens over 65, removing criminals from their family trees, providing tax discounts for retirees on vehicle purchases, and increasing the maximum speed limit set for motorcycles were also among the applications received by the Commission.
