A customer who went to a currency exchange office on Gaziler Street in the Alaybey neighborhood of Gaziantep's Şahinbey district wanted to sell their gold bracelets and 3 gram gold coins.

Due to a moment of distraction and a keyboard error, the currency exchange employee entered 21,513 TL instead of 2,513 TL for the 3 gram gold coins during the transaction. As a result, they gave the customer 242,870 TL, which was approximately 52,000 TL more than the 191,020 TL they were supposed to give. The citizen, who completed the transaction and received the money, left the currency exchange, and those moments were captured by the office's security cameras. The currency exchange employees called out to the family who sold their gold, asking them to return the excess money they received.

“A SYSTEM ERROR COST US 52,000 TL”

Stating that they made a mistake due to the daily routine intensity, Samet Kocaardıç said, “Due to our daily routine intensity, we can sometimes be distracted. The transaction we made for that customer also slipped our minds. Our colleague writes the correct amount on the calculator, but while giving the money for the gold we bought, they give the wrong amount due to a system error. Because one digit was entered incorrectly, they gave 242,870 TL instead of 191,020 TL, which corresponds to a difference of 51,870 TL. As a result, this transaction has become a loss for us.”

“OUR COLLEAGUE DID NOT NOTICE THE TRANSACTION ERROR”

Stating that the transaction error cost the currency exchange approximately 52,000 TL and that if the excess money is not returned, it will be deducted from the salary of the employee who performed the transaction, Kocaardıç asked the customer to return the money. Kocaardıç said, “We don't gain anything here. They write it correctly on the calculator. The person sees this too, but because our colleague didn't notice, they completed the transaction. Instead of processing the 3 gram gold coins at 2,510 TL, they processed them at 21,513 TL, in addition to the gold bracelets. These types of computer errors and system errors can happen. The transaction error caused by the intensity cost our company approximately 52,000 TL. If the customer does not bring the money back, it will be deducted from our colleague's salary,” he said.

"WE WANT OUR CITIZENS TO BE SENSITIVE"

Asking citizens to be sensitive about such issues, Kocaardıç said, “We want our citizens to be sensitive about this issue. We can give too much or too little money due to the intensity in the place where we work. My only request from our citizen is to bring our money back,” he said.
