The congress process continues within the AKP. The 8th Ordinary Congress, which was planned to be held in May, was moved up to February 23 upon the instruction of AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
The discussions on change that began within the AKP after the March 31 Local Elections are expected to conclude with the congress. On the other hand, Erdoğan had signaled changes in both his party and the Presidential Cabinet upon his return from his visit to Albania in October.
According to the insider report by Besti Karalar from Ekonomim, in a process where serious changes are expected in both the AKP administration and the cabinet, charter amendments such as quotas for women and youth are also on the agenda. Erdoğan, who will meet with members of parliament before the congress, will listen to their suggestions and complaints.
The scenarios voiced within the party regarding whether the cabinet reshuffle will take place before or after the congress are as follows:
“Cabinet members may change a few days before the congress; those who remain outside the cabinet may be brought into the Central Decision and Executive Board (MKYK) and the Central Executive Board (MYK).”
According to another change scenario voiced within the AKP, “On February 23, the members of the Central Decision and Executive Board of the AK Party will change. The new headquarters management will be determined on the same day, and the cabinet may change on the same night.”
