AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's compensation lawsuit against CHP's imprisoned presidential candidate and Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu has completed its preliminary review process. The Anadolu 51st Civil Court of First Instance has decided to hold an oral hearing due to the parties' failure to reach a settlement.
According to a report by Cumhuriyet, the first hearing of the case will be held on January 13, 2026, at 10:00 AM.
ERDOĞAN HAD FILED A 1 MILLION TL COMPENSATION LAWSUIT
Ekrem İmamoğlu had directed harsh criticisms at President Erdoğan during a rally organized by the CHP in Esenyurt following the arrest of Esenyurt Mayor Ahmet Özer. İmamoğlu had stated, "Do you have a blackmail stick that says, 'If you don't elect me, I won't let those you elect do their jobs. I will throw them in jail. I will make your life miserable'?"
Following these remarks, Erdoğan filed a 1 million lira non-pecuniary damages lawsuit, claiming that İmamoğlu had slandered him.
