Date set for mandatory winter tire application

The mandatory winter tire application for commercial vehicles will begin on December 1.

With the cooling of the weather, a surge in activity is expected at tire shops.

Tire specialists stated that for the safety of life and property, winter tires should be used on all vehicles in winter conditions.

"7-DEGREE WARNING"

Tire specialist Ali Ünsal stated that summer tires do not perform effectively below 7 degrees, saying, "As you know, the winter tire application will begin on December 1, and there are only a few days left. Our advice to citizens is to come and have their winter tires installed as soon as possible so they do not get caught in the rush. Since summer tires do not perform their function at temperatures above zero but below 7 degrees, we must have winter tires installed. We do not need to wait for snow to fall to have winter tires installed."

WINTER TIRE RECOMMENDATION

Discussing what to look for when buying winter tires, Ünsal said, "When buying winter tires, we need to pay attention to the quality of the rubber; tires should not be bought just because the price is affordable. Currently, the best and quietest winter tires are those with a 'V' pattern. We also recommend all-season tires; a high-quality 4-season tire also performs well in snow. Since the air temperature drops below 7 degrees in the evenings and mornings, summer tires do not function properly. Our advice to customers is to come and change them now."
