Entry to forests in 27 provinces across Turkey that carry a fire risk due to meteorological conditions has been banned.
In accordance with the decisions of the Forest Fire Fighting Commissions, which met under the chairmanship of provincial governors, a series of measures were taken in certain cities where air temperatures are expected to rise and strong winds are expected to occur, based on weather forecasts received from the Meteorological Service.
During the commission meetings, where principles such as the coordination and task distribution of fire response teams, the effective use of air and land vehicles, the evacuation and safety of residential areas and people in the fire zone, and cooperation with public institutions, municipalities, non-governmental organizations, and the public were determined, the banning of entry into forests was also discussed.
Because meteorological conditions posing a high risk for forest fires are expected, it has been decided to prohibit entry into forests on various dates between May 1 and November 30 in 27 provinces: 8 in Marmara, 6 in the Aegean, 5 in the Mediterranean, 4 in Central Anatolia, and 4 in the Black Sea.
The rules for lighting barbecues, campfires, samovars, and fires in nature parks, recreational areas, and daily use areas were also determined by the commissions, and lighting fires has been completely banned in some regions. With the decisions taken, it is aimed to prevent fires caused by carelessness, such as cigarette butts thrown without being extinguished, as well as campfires and barbecues used during picnics.
